Bioenergy solutions top the agenda at The Renewables Event

T

he Renewables Event, the UK’s only conference and exhibition dedicated to on-site renewable energy generation, will return to Birming- ham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) from 16-17 September. With the market for renewable energy constantly evolving and with the introduction of new policies and incentives, such as The Solar Strategy and Non-Domestic RHI Scheme, it is more important than ever for businesses to be aware of the opportunities to help develop sustainable initiatives. Now in its third year, The Renewables Event will welcome more than 7,000 visitors, who will engage in an unrivalled environment to network both with their peers and more than 50 exhibitors. In addition, the free-to-attend CPD- accredited conference programme, featuring 15 seminar sessions, will deliver panel discussions and case studies from some of the key energy decision-makers developing on-site renewables in major businesses and public sector organisations.

Exhibitor highlights This year’s exhibitor line-up will showcase products and technologies from the full micro- generation spectrum, including wind, biogas/biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar PV and solar thermal energy.

From the country’s fastest growing energy solutions businesses

to industry leaders in biogas plant production, this year’s event is an important opportunity to buy, sell and network.

The latest developments in biomass fuels will be on show from leading exhibitors including bhsl, which will explain its Fluidised Bed Combustion (FBC) heating systems, the only approved system permitted for use under the EU’s new poultry rules. Changes to biomass regulation mean that poultry farmers will be allowed to combust unprocessed poultry manure to generate heat on-site. Uphouse Farm in Norfolk currently uses the bhsl Fluidised Bed Combustion system and is the first UK farm to gain approval under the new EU regulation.

Other exhibitors showing their latest developments in biomass and boiler technology will include Forever Fuels, which will demonstrate its top quality, virgin-fibre wood pellets. Innasol will show its ETA Heiztechnik line of biomass boilers. These are suitable for small organisations through to large commercial and industrial enterprises. Econergy, a brand with over 650 working installations, will also present its range of wood chip boilers, pellet boilers and log boilers. There will also be a host of new

technologies and services on show this year. Exhibitors making their debut in 2014 include premium wood pellet producers Balcas Brites, leading international heating systems manufacturer Viessmann Ltd and the Renewable Energy Technology Association.

Keynote session Dr Nina Skorupska, Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association (REA), has over 25 years’ experience in the energy industry, including roles as chief executive at the REA and member of the Board of Women in Science and Engineering (WISE). Her keynote session entitled ‘Are we on track for 2020 and what is the vision for 2030?’ will offer invaluable insight into the UK’s progress towards renewable energy targets.

Other events

September will see not just one, but four environmental shows take place at the NEC. Co-located with The Renewables Event will be The Energy Event, The Water Event (launched last year) and RWM 2014 in partnership with CIWM, focused on resource efficiency and waste management. All are free to attend for The Renewables Event ticket holders, bringing together knowledge, resources and contacts for visitors with a wider sustainability role.

Extra space for forestry professionals

The biomass sector is dedicated to the production of high quality, homogenous and certified solid biofuels and that is precisely why exhibitors and visitors to Expobiomasa have demanded a meeting place that serves the needs of forestry professionals. This is of growing importance in light of new business options that have recently emerged due to the revitalisation that the timber industry is undergoing

in some areas of the Iberian Peninsula and the major influence of forestry in the biomass sector.

In a bid to respond to this demand, the Spanish Association for Energy Valuation of Biomass (AVEBIOM) is opening up exhibition space aimed at the forestry industry as a whole under the title Expobiomasa FORESTAL in Valladolid, Spain, from 21-23 October. This initiative seeks to

promote the increasingly dynamic forestry biomass market even further now that it is generating attractive business opportunities in Spain and Portugal. The 16,000 sq m target of exhibition space at Valladolid will be increased by 8,000 sq m to accommodate FORESTAL and it is estimated by AVEBIOM that one in every five visitors to Expobiomasa will find the forestry event particularly appealing
