Iseli columnar blue spruce (Picea pungens ‘Iseli Fastigiate’). Maximum 13 metres (40 feet) tall and 5 metres (15 feet) wide, but often described as four to five metres (12 to 18 feet) tall and 1.5 to two metres (four to six feet) wide this compact, pyra- midal blue spruce is an ideal plant for a city lot. It likes sun and has steel blue foli- age. It lives 80 years.


Columnar mugo pine (Pinus mugo


‘Columnaris’). A very hardy pine that grows 3 metres (nine feet) tall and 1.25 metres (four feet) wide. Fills out right to the ground and will live to be 50 years or more. Very drought tolerant and can handle salt. Full sunlight.


Weeping blue spruce (Picea pungens ‘Pendula’). While this tree will grow 12 metres tall (40 feet), but it’s spread is only 1.75 metres (five feet). Plant it in full sun. It has dusty blue weeping, trailing branch- es that are very eye catching. Slow grow- ing, it will live 70 plus years. Will not tolerate standing water.


‘Skybound’ white cedar (Thuja occiden- talis ‘Skybound’). Six metres (18 feet) tall with a 1.75 metre (5 feet) wide spread. This is a very reliable cedar that will grow in sun to part shade and live up to 50 years or more. The ultimate pillar in the land- scape.


‘Sutherland’ peashrub (Caragana arbore- scens ‘Sutherland’). Height 3.25 metres (20 feet) with a 3.25 metre spread (10 feet), this columnar caragana will do well in part shade to full sun. A lifespan of only about 30 years. Leaves turn yellow in fall.


Golden sentinel columnar apple. Only two meters (six feet) tall and .75 (2 feet) wide, this little apple tree will bear flavour- ful, medium sized, golden-delicious-type fruit. Wonderful for the tiny garden.


Columnar European beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Fastigiata’). Grows 15 metres (40 feet) tall and 3.25 metres (10 feet) wide in cooler zones. It is very attractive to birds. A larger upright, it shows well against tall, multi-storied homes. Large leaves.


‘Spire Hillier’s Cherry’ (Prunus x hillieri ‘Spire’). A lovely slow-growing cherry that will reach 10 metres tall (30 feet) and just three metres (eight to ten feet) wide. Pink flowers in springtime . Likes clay soil. Leaves turn red in fall. You might have to search for this one.


‘Dakota pinnacle’ Asian white birch (Betula


platyphylla ‘Dakota Pinnacle’).


A hardy birch that turns to gold in fall, grows 8.3 meters tall (25 feet) and 2.3 metres wide (7 feet). Has a clearance of three feet above ground. .
