PROJECTS & CONTRACTS 31
Jeddah paper maker upgrades three lines
of packaging grades in the Middle East and North Africa, is upgrading three of its paper making machines to increase its capacity and improve paper quality.
S
Andritz will be supplying the equipment and support for the Jeddah-based papermaker. Start- ups are scheduled for 2014 (PM1 and PM3) and 2015 (PM2). For MEPCO’s PM1 machine Andritz will provide a new approach system and rebuild the wet section with a PrimeFlow SW headbox including flexible lamella technology and dilution profiling system; plus a rebuild of
the dewatering table. The PM2 will have similar
approach and wet section rebuilds but in addition it will have rebuilds of the wire section consisting of two Fourdriniers and a PrimeForm HB hybrid former for higher drainage capacity and improved formation; a rebuild of the film press and the drying section:
relocation of 10 dryers from the existing after-drying section to the pre-drying section; the PrimeCoat film press is designed for operation both as film press and size press, combining the advantages of both systems and opening up a broad manufacturing range. Finally the PM2 will have a new air- driven air turn system (PrimeAir
audi Arabia’s Middle East Paper Co (MEPCO), one of the leading producers
Glide) installed that changes the direction of a continuous web without any direct contact. Likewise, the PM3 will have
approach systems and the wet section rebuilt including the dilution profiling system. In addition the press section will be rebuilt with a higher nip load for more efficient dewatering, and the drying equipped with PrimeRun web stabilisers to enable a stable sheet run. Andritz will also install TwinFlo
refiners in the OCC lines in order to improve the fibre properties. The OCC pulping plant will be upgraded by installing a modified FibreFlow drum pulper with a capacity of 1,400 tons per day to enhance the fibre quality and to reduce operating costs.
Stora Enso’s Beihai mill will have 450,000 ton capacity
Stora Enso has ordered a chemi- mechanical pulp (BCTMP) line and a board production line for its new mill at Beihai in Guangxi Province, China. Valmet will supply the board machine, which will produce high-quality liquid packaging board and folding box board grades. Yearly board capacity will be about 450,000 tons.
The project is valued at about €115 million with start up expected in early 2016. One of the end products of the new mill will be liquid packaging board that has high quality printing properties for the
manufacture of drinks cartons. “We are glad that Stora Enso
trusted us in this project and that we were able to provide solutions for both pulp and board production. Liquid packaging board is process- wise one of the most demanding board grades to produce and it is a growing market,” says Jari Vähäpesola, president of the paper
business at Valmet. The board machine will have a
multi-Fourdrinier forming section with hybrid forming unit, press, drying and coating sections, a surface sizing unit, a calender,
a reel, two winders and a wide mill engineering package. The delivery will also include related air systems, chemical systems as well as stock preparation and auxiliary systems.
