Samsung Galaxy S5 Most marketed device

Apple iPhone 5s cleans up in Vodafone stores this week Samsung Galaxy S5 communications dominate but as it’s still on pre-order consumer terms, there is a risk that expectations are not being best managed ahead of sales launch and that inertia around “new” messaging for the Galaxy flagship device will begin to kick in.

CONTRACT £42 PREPAY £537

UK MARKETING VOICE 25%

Carphone Warehouse tantalises with the promise of the Samsung Galaxy S5. It’s been “nigh” for an awful long time now and the promotional voice keeps on belting out the pre-order message, in-store.

Phones 4u Samsung still has the strongest voice while the iPhone 5s is the most-promoted product – but the Samsung Galaxy S4 “family” is available for £17 a month and there’s a Galaxy Gear promotion with any S4 or Note 3.

O2 turns up the dial on the Samsung Gear also as well as S5 pre-order promises of double data when you buy a £38-month tariff with £70 upfront. The HTC One (M8) and the Sony Xperia Z2 have big data upsells of 5GB and 2GB respectively but it’s the pricepoint of £43 a month for the HTC device which will have consumers clutching their wallets.

Vodafone still touts the £47-a-month tariff pricepoint for the iPhone 5s, with the consumer message “Power to you”. The phantom Samsung Galaxy S5 is promoted in pre-order contexts for £37 when you trade in your old Samsung smartphone.

EE’s No Brainer Deal of the Week is – you’ve guessed it – the Samsung Galaxy S5! It’s available for £38 a month but “hurry, the offer ends April 10”, which is slightly perplexing when you think about it; there is an urgency to buy a phone, which is not in stock, before the offer for the smartphone apparition

expires – before the phone has actually physically launched. Pigs. Pokes.

Three broadcasts the Samsung Galaxy S5 for £38 a month while the iPhone 5s is £35 a month. The overwhelming Samsung communications teases an “introduction to the Galaxy S5” but there’s no physical product, just photos – it's all marketing, no content.

An increase in Samsung valuations and trade-ins on CompareMyMobile has resulted in dramatic value depreciation affecting smartphones across the Galaxy range. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has seen a

10.2 per cent drop in trade-in value since the Galaxy S5 was announced in February, while the Galaxy S3 has seen a 6.6 per cent fall and the Galaxy S i900 suffered a nine per cent trade- in value drop. Last year, within a month of the

Galaxy S4 release, the Galaxy range as a whole had lost over 20 per cent of its trade-in value, a trend that CompareMyMobile expects to see yet again in the weeks following the S5 release.
