ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARIES ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARIES New Reading Groups from East to West

Book Club for Early Readers at Canyon Hills Branch The Reading Rangers Book Club is held monthly at the Canyon Hills Branch Library for first through third graders. Proposed by a parent who volunteered in her child’s class and saw the need for kids to have discussions about what they read in order to improve comprehension, librarians launched the new meeting in summer 2013 and the students voted on the group’s name. Participants feel comfortable talking about the books without the performance pressures of the classroom, although featured selections are chosen because they count for the Reading Counts and Accelerated Reader assessments used by schools in our district. Each month, a book is chosen and displayed for attendees to borrow in advance. Facts about the author are printed on collectible cards and library staff creates related book-related activities such as word searches, puzzles or ice-breaker discussion questions. Each session includes a craft related to the book and refreshments, and small prizes are awarded during the hour.

Adult Mystery Readers Meet at the Haskett Branch Library

Let’s Talk Mystery! is an adult mystery book club that meets at 1:00pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Haskett Branch Library. Each month features a different theme. Books on the topic are available to be checked out from the display table at the library. A bibliography for the month is also available upon request. Please join us for a lively discussion and light refreshments. For further information, please contact Librarian Mary Nuttelman at (714) 765-5064.
