The generosity people showed that evening was incredible and a good demonstration of farmers and their supporting industries standing together. It was a lot of hard work to organise but it was well worth the effort.”
WELL-ORGANISED: Abi Reader and Beth John, who organised a charity event in Glamorgan to raise money for flood-hit farmers in Somerset.

THEFarmers’Union of Wales has helped young farmers in Clwyd gain confidence and improve their communication skills. The FUW sponsored Clwyd
YFC’s recent public speaking com- petitions. FUW Denbighshire
and
Flintshire county executive officer Rhys Roberts said the union is always happy to support the YFC movement, both locally and nationally, and believes that public speaking is a great way for mem- bers to improve their communica- tion skills. “It also allows them to gain con-
fidence in airing their views on a variety of topics,” Mr Roberts added.
Cheques for £100 were present-
ed to representatives of Clwyd YFC by local FUW branch mem- bers at the English-speaking event at Treuddyn and theWelsh compe- tition at Dewi Sant School, Rhyl.

the conference was how impor- tant young people would be for the future of the industry and that it was vital that the agricultural sector is seen as an attractive career choice. “This is something that Wales
YFCalso feel very strongly about and are trying to put measures in
place to help achieve this outcome through providing opportunities for our members. “It was good to have an exter-
nal outlook on the economic impacts of commodities and on the future of agriculture, a vision of the market drivers of the retail sector, and also hear fromthe var- ious links in the supply chain on the second afternoon.” Wales YFC wished new NFU
president Meurig Raymond from Pembrokeshire all the best in his role.
