Standards, standards, standards from NSI, and Security events to look out for in 2014

I

t is traditional at this time of year to look forward to the year ahead and reflect on plans and hopes for the future. With this in mind, we ask thought leaders from the security world for their views on 2014.

We have contributions from the chairmen of all the major security organisations, including the Security Institute, ASIS, NSI and BSIA, as well as the Commissioner of the City of London Police and the Chief Constable of BTP. Alongside these, we have opinions of the CEOs and MDs from some of the largest providers in the security sector. There is some consensus on the threats we face and current economic challenges, and a range of ideas on how these can be tackled in the year ahead.

As part of looking ahead, we welcome to this edition Commander Steve Head, City of London Police and National Coordinator for Economic Crime. In a new regular feature, he highlights prevalent types of fraud. Please share this information with colleagues, family and friends to help tackle this pernicious crime.

We also cover Kenya – security priorities for the short and long term, an in-depth view of the CSSC, integrating security into building design and how data analytics can make a difference for law enforcement. Geoff Zeidler, Chairman of the BSIA, explores the pros and cons of bundled security, a debate that will continue into 2014 and beyond.

We are delighted to present an article on Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick, the most senior female police officer in the Metropolitan Police, following an interview with her at Scotland Yard.

This is our 50th issue since its humble beginings as a quarterly magazine for the City of London Crime Prevention Association. Today, the magazine continues to grow in stature as a well-respected national security journal, with first class contributors. For this issue we have a record distribution of 7,000 copies, with over 40% being CEO, MD and Director level.

Many thanks indeed to all our loyal advertisers for their continued support, many having been with us since the magazine’s inception some years ago. Without this fantastic support we would not be able to produce such a quality product and their help is much appreciated. Please continue to follow us on Twitter for our latest news, and finally, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a safe and peaceful New Year.
