Support for Brewery plan to build arts youth hostel

NEW Brewery Arts in Cirencester has submitted a planning application to Cotswold District Council for a 49 person Arts Youth Hostel for tourists, visitors and artists. This will be one of the first of its kind in the country. The Arts Youth Hostel

will have the potential to bring in up to 16,000 new overnight visitors per year. The Arts Youth Hostel

will attract all sorts of peo- ple including: singles and couples enjoying a short break learning a new skill such as stone carving or pottery; parties of young people, for example cel- ebrating birthdays; school, college

or university

groups studying a specific craft or art form, and art- ists looking for training and development in busi- ness skills. By offering affordable residential accommoda- tion in conjunction with the existing makers studi- os, education studios, gal- leries and meeting spaces, New Brewery Arts will

be able to attract artists, exhibitors, students and young people from all over the world to take up resi- dencies, master classes, workshops and summer schools offering, for the first time, an immersive experience with other stu- dents. Ali Russell, New Brew-

ery Arts Chief Execu- tive, said “The Arts Youth Hostel will be attractive to those visiting specifi- cally for arts activities at New Brewery Arts; those visiting Cirencester for leisure and tourism and those passing through on an activity holiday. Being in the centre of the town visitors will also be visit- ing the shops, restaurants, leisure centre, outdoor pool, parks, museum and church and this should increase the prosperity of the local economy.” Annie Gould, New Brew-

ery Arts business develop- ment manager, said: “The idea came about as we were looking at creative ways in which we could sustain the charity into
