The Real Knights Arkansas says thanks to drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week By ATR Staff On a beautiful fall day in
September, Arkansas joined the nation in celebrating the 25th annual National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (September 15-21), by distributing free lunches and goodie bags in North Little Rock, Ark. at the Love’s Travel Stop on I-40, one of the most heavily traveled freight corridors in the southeast. Truck Driver Appreciation Week is
an event designed to reflect and appreci- ate the truck drivers in the United States that continually deliver America’s freight safely and securely. There are nearly 3.1 million truck drivers in the United States. Total industry employment is 6.9 million, or one of every 16 people work- ing in the United States. In 2012, the trucking industry hauled 9.4 billion tons
of freight, or 68.5 percent of total U.S. freight tonnage. “Today’s truck drivers are highly
trained professionals and so these events are simple ways to recognize what they do for our economic well-being, our con- venience and our quality of life. Without them, nothing would be as easy,” said Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association (ATA). “We as a nation owe a great deal to the truck driv- ers out on our nation’s roads, as well as the families of those behind the wheel.” Twenty-two (22) corporate members
of the Arkansas Trucking Association donated food, refreshments, goodies and volunteers for the event. The drives were grateful for this outpouring of thanks and the ATA would like to extend its appreciation to the following companies which made the event possible:
