• BDO’s Southampton office has recruited a total of 20 new staff in the past two months, including six in the tax team, bringing the tax department’s total headcount to 45 and the office’s to over 160. Jane Mulholland (third from right) has re-joined as tax partner, having spent the past four years at PwC. She is responsible for all aspects of tax services to a broad range of clients, in particular entrepreneurial privately-owned businesses and start-ups. Together with partners Stuart Lisle of corporate (third from left) and Andrew Lines of private client (second from left), she has ambitious plans for the further growth and development of the team. Mulholland is joined by three new starters from the EY tax team. Sheena Nutley (right) joins as senior corporate tax manager along with Jo Dalmas (second from right) and Kelly Reade (left). Nav Dosanjh also joins after graduating from the University of Southampton, and Charlotte Pearce joins on the BDO school leaver programme.
• Poole-based integrated security manufacturer TDSi is extending its commitment to exploring untapped export markets with the appointment of Paul Ford to the role of export sales technical engineer. The company is already working on extensive market research of both African and South East Asian security markets, with the assistance of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). It plans to recruit new export business development managers in 2014 to ensure the business potential is realised in these key export territories. TDSi has also demonstrated its commitment to training by appointing new apprentices Stephanie Herridge to its finance department; Amanda Wright to its product development team; and Hannah Collins to assist with operations.
• Law firm Blake Lapthorn has made 18 promotions across its four offices in Southampton, Portsmouth, London and Oxford. At the firm’s Southampton office employment solicitor Ruth Christy; corporate finance solicitor Mark Nixon; commercial litigation solicitor Jessica Tresham; clinical negligence solicitor Gemma Bailey; family solicitor Sarah French; employment solicitor Lisa Wallis; and South Coast real estate solicitor Katie Hunt have all been promoted to associate. Southampton’s Hampshire real estate solicitor Allen Townsend and risk and compliance solicitor Matt Sturgeon have been promoted to senior associate. From Portsmouth’s Seacourt office, family solicitor Claire Colbert and Oxford real estate solicitor Michael Ward have both been promoted to senior associate. Stephen Murfitt, chairman and senior partner at the firm, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce these promotions, which reflect the high quality of people we have at Blake Lapthorn.“
• Charles Brooks, corporate partner at Penningtons Manches LLP’s Basingstoke office, has been elected as the new chairman of Multilaw, one of the world’s largest associations of independent law firms. Brooks took over his two- year role from Mark Lowndes of Lowndes Associates, at the Multilaw Annual Conference held in Buenos Aires in October. He specialises in advising on corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, MBOs, private equity, joint ventures, reorganisations and start-ups.
• Law firm Moore Blatch has appointed Clare Fanner to drive the marketing strategy. Managing partner David Thompson said the appointment was an integral part of the firm’s ongoing development plans. Fanner will be working with Moore Blatch’s 28 business teams on everything from brand management to marketing communications.
• Top 25 chartered accountancy and business advisory firm Wilkins Kennedy LLP has appointed Jon Noble (right) as audit director. Having previously held a director position at accountancy firm BDO in Guildford, Noble is now based in Wilkins Kennedy’s Winchester office and heads up local audit direction at both the Winchester and Romsey offices of the firm. Specialising in audit, assurance and advisory work, Noble works with a wide portfolio of clients including SMEs, owner-managed businesses, professional practices and not- for-profit organisations. • David Norman has been appointed as a new commissioner on the board of Poole Harbour Commissioners. Norman, who currently runs his own marine consultancy business, held a number of senior positions with Condor Ferries during his 17-year career with the company, including that of operations director. A master mariner, he will bring welcome maritime experience to the board of 12 commissioners which is responsible for overseeing the management of the 10,000 acres which makes up Europe’s largest natural harbour.
