FROM GOODTO GREAT! Greetings from Greater Nebraska!

I would like to take this opportunity to say what a pleasure it

has been to serve as your Chairman for the past year and to thank my colleagues on the Executive Committee for allowing to serve another! Te past year has been one of challenges, change, opportunity and growth within your Association. Notable changes and challenges over the past year, have included the outsourcing of our magazine, and the loss of a couple key, long term staff members. With the departure of our Development Director, Sue Wilson and our long time VP of Membership Services, Nance Harris stepping down, to slow down, in her new role as Coordinator of Special Projects we’ve been able to evaluate our current staffing needs and begin to align our mission with the special skills that will enable our Association to be relevant and sustainable in the long term.

So we have had changes, challenges, opportunities and I’m happy to report growth! With this edition of the Nebraska Trucker I’m very excited to announce and I hope you will help me welcome the over 300 new member companies that have joined the NTA over the past year. A majority of these new members we have received via a joint agreement with our Truck Services Division to add this large group of small to medium sized trucking companies that are or have been long time clients of Truck Services, but had never joined the NTA. By giving them the chance to “try us out”, we’re hoping that they too will understand the benefits of joining the Association in the future. Tis group typically is the most difficult to find and engage in important issues. In the past, they have operated without a voice and no longer will they be out there operating by themselves. So, please join me in welcoming this hopefully strong and active group to our midst.

In closing, please

With challenges and change, there are also opportunities and yes, even a few hiccups along the way. After a great start and many positive changes in format and appearance, our beloved Nebraska Trucker publication was delayed and it took the loyal support of our several of our members that voted with their advertising dollars to get it back on track. Many organizations like ours are finding that print publications ARE more expensive to print than online versions, but remain very important to our members. Like many things in life, a lot of times you don’t miss something until its gone and so often it is impossible to bring something back. Tank goodness, many of you picked up the phone or emailed to let us know you missed the Nebraska Trucker and your Executive Committee listened. Please trust that your Executive Committee remains committed to investigating every possible avenue to ensure that we have a relevant and sustainable “printed” publication. Our distribution rate with the help of our partner, Mathews Publishing Group has grown to over 6000 copies each month!
