Horse Park, where he wows the crowds as the representative of Knabstruppers in the Parade of Breeds.” Xafaire lives in Florida with his new owner Manette Monroe, also doing dressage. Cita Normark earned Melyni her scores at First and Second Level towards her USDF bronze medal, and has earned the same plus Tird Level scores for April Shultz. Te mare now lives with Patsy Gray in Alabama, where she regularly wins with Patsy as she con- tinues her dressage career. Te semen from Ravaldi and Ecuador Skrødstrup has been
Louise Jordan-Beam’s Captain de Bec, a solid bay Knabstrupper. Captain de Bec (Ambrosius af Asgard x Corijana) is a solid bay
Knabstrupper out of an Oldenburg mare and is almost three years old. He is eager to work, although he hasn’t been backed yet. He accepted the saddle, bridle and bit without a second thought, and already lunges and long reins beautifully. He occasionally accom- panies other horses to shows and behaves impeccably, impressing many who meet him. He recently placed fourth in the Dressage at Devon Knabstrupper Individual Breed Class. His future, says owner Louise Jordan-Beam, BHSAI, of Corner House Farm Rid- ing School in Douglassville, Pennsylvania, includes competing in dressage, combined training and jumper shows. “Captain is quite a character and loves attention,” she says. Louise was first introduced to Knabstruppers when she was asked to train and compete Captain’s full brother, Aviator De Bec, who is owned by Emily Wenhold. “I was impressed by Aviator’s paces and ability, so when Captain became available I jumped at the chance to buy him,” Louise explains. Cedar Creek Stables in Virginia is owned by Knabstrupper fan
Melyni Worth. “It all started years ago with a leopard spotted stal- lion called Klaus. I rode him and loved him. At the time, I was just a humble groom/working student at the stables where he lived,” recounts Melyni. “I thought he was a British Appaloosa, but it turned out that he was a Knabstrupper!” For many years Melyni searched for an Appaloosa just like Klaus and could never find one. “In 2005 I took a trip to Ger- many and Denmark, and there I found horses that were just like Klaus. And so it all began,” says Melyni. “I had bred a couple of my mares to semen imported from Germany, using the late great Apollon. But the prospect of foals was not enough, I wanted one I could ride, hence the trip to Denmark! On that trip I saw the stal- lion of my dreams, Fairbanks Skødstrup, but no way could I afford him. But I could afford the then-stallion Xavoy Middelsom and, if I had him gelded before he left Denmark, I could also afford to import him! So I also bought another gelding named Frej and the colt foal Xafaire Middelsom. Plus I bought semen from two spot stallions, Ravaldi and Ecuador Skrødstrup, to use on mares here at home. In Germany I had bought four filly foals as future brood- mares, foals being far less expensive to import.” Ten on a return trip in 2006, she bought the mare Cita Nor-
mark and another gelding, Ikaros Norremark. Since then, Xavoy and Melyni have worked their way up the levels in dressage. “We are now competing PSG/I1 and are working on all the Grand Prix,” she reports happily. “Frej was shown as a jumper for a while and is now with us as a lesson horse. Ikaros is at the Kentucky
used on a variety of mares, Toroughbred, Arabian and Warm- blood, with the oldest get at the farm now six years old. Tey have been shown mostly in dressage, with CCS Tinuvel (Ravaldi x Imperial Spice XX)
currently competing at Tird Level. Oth- ers have moved on and are working for their new owners. “In 2009 we
organized the first inspection tour for the KNN, and this year (2013) will be hosting our fourth tour,” Melyni adds. “In 2010 I bought the young stallion Hali- fax Middelsom from his importer and we presented him for his mandatory ridden test, which he passed. He now has several foal crops; all of his foals out of solid colored mares are full leopard,” says Melyni. “Halifax competes at Tird Level right now and he has qualified for the Region 1 Championships at Tird. I hope he qualifies for the National Championships.”
