Pall-Ex Poland in business Pall-Ex has opened its Polish

network, Pall-Ex Polska, the pallet delivery specialist’s fiſth continental network and its second in Central Eastern Europe. The hub is in the Lodz region and

logistics company KMC Services is principal national partner for the 19-strong network. Pall-Ex Polska joins Pall-Ex Group’s operations in the UK and will also work alongside the four other European networks – Pall-Ex Italia, Pall-Ex Iberia, Pall-Ex Romania and the newly launched Pall-Ex France. Managing director of Pall- Ex Group, Adrian Russell, said:

“Coupled with our endeavours in Romania, this steady start in Poland provides further evidence to show that the pallet network concept is one that is adaptable and of interest to the wider region. As the global supply chain continues to change and Central Eastern Europe continues to play an integral role in this, we forecast that Pall-Ex Polska will continue to grow and integrate itself as a backbone to the domestic distribution landscape much like we did in the UK, all those years ago.”

Anand Assi, Pall-Ex’s project director in charge of the group’s

European expansion said that

other members could be recruited to infill existing areas but complete nationwide coverage was already available. Improvements to the Polish road

network had made 24 delivery a reality for most of the country, he added. Pall-Ex is also in talks to launch

networks in Germany, Scandinavia, Benelux and Turkey.

Green light for Calais-Spain trains

Intermodal operator SNCF-Geodis has been given the go ahead by French Minister for Transport, Frédéric Cuvillier to launch a ‘rail motorway’ project between the Port of Calais and Le Boulou near Perpignan on the French-Spanish border. The route, which should be

operational by the second half of 2015, will connect Calais with the Le Boulou terminal in the eastern Pyrenees, 1,400km (870 miles) away and is expected to contribute to modal shift between the UK, the Nord-Pas de Calais region and north- east Spain. The service will be operated under

trains by a side loading system in Calais port. However, the system used will be different from the Cargobeamer system reported on in previous issues of FBJ and will be similar to the Lohr Industrie equipment already used by VIIA

between its terminals at Le Boulou and Bettembourg (Luxembourg) and Aiton - Orbassano

Europa debuts in Morocco

Europa Worldwide has launched a regular service to and from Morocco, its first major expansion since its takeover by former RH Freight boss, Andrew Baxter. In its first regular venture into the North African country, Europa has appointed GR Vilade as exclusive partner in Casablanca and will run a twice-weekly service. Europa’s Birmingham operation is already

working directly with GR Valade in arranging direct trailers to and from Casablanca. Europa says it is expecting to

add further routes by the end of the year and throughout 2014. The company plans to become a market leader in European groupage, open new UK offices and

add further groupage services.

Associated British Ports (ABP) is reorganising its Humber ports to bring its operational and commercial teams under one umbrella. Currently

into two directorates covering Hull and Goole on the north bank of the river and Grimsby

to increasing demand from customers and better aligns ABP with other organisations working

to champion the region as a centre for trade and new renewable energy, such as the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership. The new organisation will be

led by John Fitzgerald, currently ABP port director Grimsby & Immingham while Matt Jukes,
