LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

DATIA focus Celebrates 5th F
Anniversary
ive years ago, DATIA published its first issue of DATIA focus magazine. When I first brought up the idea of
going from a monthly newsleter writen by DATIA management to a full-blown maga- zine with articles submited by members and industry experts, how it would turn out was unknown. Many discussions with Board Members, particularly former Board Member Jacquie Sheehey, who became the first Communications Commitee Chair, led us to a blueprint of the magazine and what types of articles and features to include. Gladly, DATIA focus has grown to become a highly-praised benefit of DATIA membership, as reported by members. Te success of DATIA focus is due
largely to the many authors that have submited exceptional educational articles over the past five years. Without these authors and their willingness to share their experiences and knowledge with other industry professionals, there would be no magazine. We truly appreciate and thank each and every one of our DATIA focus authors. A list of all of our authors to date is on page 20 of this issue. DATIA would also like to thank the many members of the DATIA Communications Commitee, led by Co-Chairs Elaine Taulé and Lisa Morrison, as well as the DATIA Board for their efforts in ensuring that DATIA focus features articles with accurate information that are free of commercialism. Education is the cornerstone of DATIA

and its mission is to provide quality ben- efits to its members and improve the drug and alcohol testing industry. Whether it is viaDATIA focus articles, webinar presenta- tions, training courses, or annual confer- ence sessions, DATIA strives to provide its members with comprehensive education to help them succeed. All of these educational opportunities require participation by industry professionals willing to share their
expertise, and we are grateful to each and every one of them. We here at DATIA are always looking for
authors and presenters willing to provide education on a wide variety of topics; in- cluding, but not limited to, best practices in drug and alcohol testing, DNA testing and wellness testing, alcohol testing issues, adul- terants, marketing, trends in drug use and specific information of the various DOT modes. We are interested in educating our members so they can support their clients’ new and changing needs. It is especially in these days where industry providers are expanding into areas other than strictly drug and alcohol testing. Many providers find that it’s much more beneficial not only to them, but to their clients, to offer a more diverse set of services. Tis allows the com- pany to grow, while also enabling them to serve as a one-stop-shop to clients needing a number of employment related services. To assist members in providing these ad- ditional services, DATIA needs to provide education on a diverse set of topics. Again, a huge THANKS to all DATIA
focus authors, conference presenters, and webinar presenters for taking the time to share their knowledge with others in the industry. We encourage you to reach out to DATIA should you be interested in submit- ting an article for DATIA focus or in making a webinar or conference presentation on a topic of interest. In addition, we encourage you contact us with topics in which you are interested. We will do our best to find an expert to address it via one of our educa- tional opportunities. ❚
Best,
Laura Shelton DATIA Executive Director
