Don’s Digressions: Our Executive Director’s Column
• MELNA’s Recertification Workshop was postponed from Wednesday, February 27 until Monday, March 4 at Seasons Event Center (formerly Verillo’s) in Portland. Te postponement was due to a storm. About 35 MELNA members attended and gained continuing education credits for the MELNA professional designations.
• MELNA is still looking for members to host Twilight Meetings. One will be held in July and this will include a membership business meeting. Te other will be in September. Contact the MELNA Office if you are willing to host.
• MELNA members dominated awards at the Portland Flower Show held in early March. Congratulations to the following MELNA members:
• Cozy Acres Greenhouses of North Yarmouth received the Beatrix Farrand Design Award for best alternative garden style or design.
• O’Donal’s Nursery of Gorham, the Cary Award for best use of hardy Northern climate plants.
• Skillin’s Greenhouses of Falmouth, the Hardscape Award for most creative use of a hardscape.
• Coastal Lawn Care, Inc. of Cumberland, the John Skillin First-Timers Award for best overall score among new exhibitors.
• O’Donal’s Nursery of Gorham, the Lyle Littlefield Commemorative Award for the garden that best introduces new or little-used woody plants.
