Business blossoms thanks to new partnership
A partnership with British transport operators Knights of Old and the Partnerlink Europe grouping contributed to double- digit growth in transport to and from the UK last year, says Partnerlink Europe’s German member, the Huettemann Group. Huttemann describes itself as
a medium-sized, international logistics
service provider. It
has a head office in Duisburg, employing around 500 people at 20 sites across Europe and a group turnover of nearly €100 million. Knights of Old is a major
shareholder in Partnerlink and recently launched Partnerlink Europe, in which TSA of France, Vorex of Holland, Alberti e Santi of Italy, Nightline International of Ireland, Sertrans of Iberia, Transports
Jacot of France,
M&F Spedition of Germany and Trawöger of Austria all work together to offer a competitive pan European solution. (In addition, Knights of Old is able to offer
services to Belgium, Poland, Malta and Scandinavia.) Huettemann Group’s M+F
Spedition arm, based in Nordhorn, on the German-Netherlands border in particular has benefited from the partnership, with all Germany-UK transport being directed via the company. “The volume of general cargo exports last year rose by 10% compared to 2011, and imports increased by as much as 28%,” says M+F’s managing director, André Manuguerra. “Each week, up to 20 groupage trucks (including double- deck trailers) carrying electronic goods, cosmetics, toys and other goods embark for the UK and Ireland from Nordhorn according to a precise schedule, and are driver-accompanied until they reach their destination.” The agreement gives Knights use

reached next day using M&F’s own fleet. Knights then collects any UK-bound goods in Germany and returns to its Kettering depot for next day delivery to UK and Ireland. Knights’ group managing
director, Ian Beattie said: “The partnership with M&F is integral to our European service. They operate to an extremely high standard of service, as do we, so we know that our customers’ requirements will be met.” As well as groupage freight, M+F Spedition also offers comprehensive part-load and full-load transport to the UK and Ireland, and in collaboration with a British parcels service provider, nationwide parcel distribution,
The launch of its Daily Pallet service has enabled DSV to offer daily road services between all its offices in the UK and anywhere in Germany. DSV Daily Pallet, launched last May, is a daily groupage service covering 32 European countries via a hub in Germany with online booking, daily pick-up and departure and assured on-time delivery. transports have been a real success, with customers also benefiting,” says Hüttemann. “Our customers can rely on logistics companies that have first-hand local knowledge, and which thanks to long-standing partnerships can quickly and flexibly deliver goods to their destinations. They are very satisfied with our service, and therefore I expect consignment volumes to continue to grow in the future.”
Clarke, said: “Traditionally we operate daily groupage departures from our Purfleet location into the Ruhr. This new service now enables all our offices throughout the UK to offer a daily service to all destinations in Germany.” Germany itself has long been
DSV Road UK’s largest market in Europe outside Scandinavia. Clarke says it has remained relatively stable despite the challenging economic conditions in Europe. “The level of imports into the UK is still slightly higher than export volumes to Germany but exports are rising slowly,” she says. DSV is also increasing its interest
in European full load deliveries, with a special focus on Germany. “We already run 18-20,000 trailer loads a year between the UK and Germany, with a relatively good
balance eastbound and
westbound,” says director full load, DSV Road, Karl Timmis. Export traffic from the UK to
Germany has been bolstered by the increasing volume of

RDF (refuse derived fuel) which is sent to Germany, and other destinations in Europe, for burning. This is waste product that has been cleaned and packed in the UK but local authorities find it cheaper to send out of the country rather than to bury it in UK landfill sites. “Traditionally DSV Road
as a company has tended to concentrate on LCL and pallet-load traffic,” says Mr Timmis. “However, we are also focusing on our European full load development. We already see possibilities to add value to our existing clientele and to explore new solutions with the
larger corporations where
it is apparent there is a greater demand for FTL along with some LTL requirement.” DSV Road operates 8,500
standard trailers, 1,200 temperature-controlled trailers and 600 containers (a mixture of 45’ palletwide and 40’) on its services throughout Europe. It is the third largest logistics company in Europe.
