© City Security magazine 2013 @CitySecuritymag A Professionalisation and career development in the security industry

s preparations are being made for the new academic year and the summer holidays progress, our thoughts turn to new careers, fresh starts and ongoing

achievement. Accordingly, City Security magazine focuses this edition on career and business development. Whether starting out, a seasoned professional or growing a security business, there is something in this edition for you.

A number of thought leaders share their ideas and provide advice on a range of areas. Mike Britnell, Skills for Security, Interim CEO, discusses qualifications, Graham Bassett, Director of GBRUK, provides insight into developing Brand You and a number of experts, including Dr Alison Wakefield, University of Portsmouth, discuss security as a career choice for young people.

With professional development always at the heart of City Security magazine, we also cover a range of other topics. We welcome Commander Steve Head, Economic Crime Directorate, City of London Police, who provides an update on the national police approach in the battle against fraud. We have ‘How to’ articles on keeping security fit, preserving a crime scene and preventing phishing attacks.

We are privileged to feature an interview with the new Chairman of the Security Institute and MD of Esoteric, Emma Shaw, who talks about her views on the world of security and her vision for the Institute.

A big thanks to everyone who visited our stand at IFSEC International in May. We were delighted to meet many existing and new readers of the magazine. It is safe to say that this was an unqualified success and we have been invited back next year. As you will know, the show will be moving to the ExCeL Centre in London in 2014, so we look forward to seeing you there.

For our autumn issue, due out in the first week of October, we have a “global security” theme. We will be collating articles from leading international thought leaders. If you would like to contribute, please contact us at editorial@citysecuritymagazine.com.

With an ever increasing distribution, increase your company profile by advertising in our next issues. Our following on Twitter is ever growing and a great way to keep up to date with the magazine and let us know your views. Why not follow us on @CitySecurityMag

Have a wonderful and safe summer. We hope you enjoy the read. Eugene O’Mahony Editor
