CONFIDENCEamong small businesses acrossWales, includingGwent, is continu- ing to rise,according to data released todaybythe Federation of Small Businesses. The FSB’sWales Voice of Small Business Index posted its highest positive confi- dence reading on record in the third quarter of this year, hitting apositive balance of 15 per cent. That figure was a
healthyrise on the positive balance of 9per cent in the previous quarter,with the Welsh index nowatits high- est point since it was launched at the beginning of 2010.
Encouragingly,the survey
also showedthat small busi- nesses across thewhole of Wales sawturnoverrise for the first time since the third quarter of 2010.Abalance of 6per cent of small firms
questioned reported arise in revenue compared to the pre- vious three months,upcon- siderably on the negative bal- ance of 21 per cent seen in the same quarter of 2012. Amid further evidence of increased confidence the sur- veyshowedthatanet bal- ance of 12.6 per cent of small businesses inWales said they intended to increase capital investment over the next 12
months.Inthe same quarter
of last year abalance of 1.3 per cent actually expected capital investment in their business to fall. FSBWelsh policyunit chairmanJanet Jones said: “The data from this latest survey shows that theWelsh economy is finallymoving in the right direction. These new figures suggest that con- fidence has improvedagain.” “However,weare not out of the woods yet.”
Newdeal links US with firminWales
AWELSH-BASED medical supplies company has signedamajor newdeal with US surgical instru- ment developer Symmetry Surgical. The deal will see Hospital
Innovations,which is based in St Mellons,near Newport, becoming Symmetry Surgical’ssoleUKdistribu- tor,supplying surgical instruments to medical facili- ties across the country through their iStruments division.
Symmetry Surgical,which acquired the SSI, Olsen Electrosurgical and Codman Instrumentation ranges,pre- viously distributed in theUK by Johnson&Johnson, to become one of the world’s largest suppliers of surgical instruments,has its interna-
