Street Named in Honor of Country Singer Darius Rucker
THE NORTHSTAR NEWS North Charleston, S.C.,
has named a major street in honor of country singer Darius Rucker.
The street leading to the
North Charleston Coliseum, where the band Hootie and the Blowfish first played in the 1990s, has been named Darius Rucker Boulevard.
Rucker, Dean Felber,
Jim Sonefeld and Mark Bryand started Hootie and the Blowfish in 1986 at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Rucker is Hootie and
the Blowfish's lead singer. He also performs solo as a country singer.
"Thank you for
recognizing me in this way," said Rucker. "Twenty-one years ago, I never would have thought that a street would be named after me. Now when bands are trying to find the coliseum, they can put Darius Rucker Boulevard in their cars' GPS."
Rucker, 47, was born in Charleston, The Best Bankers. Hometown Banking.
