As the Parish Council’s sole employee, this is a key local government post with responsibilities for guiding and advising the council in undertaking its statutory duties. With a population of over 8,000


Bearsted Parish is the second largest parish within Maidstone Borough and with an annual budget well in excess of £100,000, it performs several discretionary activities.


You will be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the


Parish Office which adjoins a busy community hall and which is very close to a public library, a Junior School and local shops. You will arrange and attend all council meetings; provide procedural, administrative and legal advice; provide councillors with adequate information to enable informed decisions to be made; implement council decisions; keep the council’s accounts up to date; and provide a welcoming point of contact for the general public.


You may have held a similar position with a parish council of comparable size to Bearsted Parish for a period of at least 5 years or you may be professionally qualified in management, public administration, accountancy or law.


A professional qualification and membership of an appropriate professional organisation would be of advantage.


Equally, however, we will be looking for someone with a proven track record of having successfully worked in a senior managerial or administrative position for at least 5 years.

This is a full-time position of 37 hours per week. 30 hours based in the office and 7 hours outside of office hours. Salary scale £26,261 to £29,236 pa depending on experience.
