BACK TO COLLEGE
FANS of the popular BBC One talent show The Voice would be forgiven for thinking Joseph Apostol had now achieved most of his goals in life.
Despite being just 22, the super-talented vocalist has already performed in front of millions on live TV and even on one occasion as part of a double act with his legendary mentor Sir Tom Jones. Yet despite such early success, Joseph had just one thing on his mind after the dust had settled on The Voice – returning to MidKent College to complete his studies. “I believe education is important for everyone,” said Joseph. “My mum taught me that from a young age, and I’d worked hard during my time at MidKent so I wanted to complete my qualifications and make it all worthwhile.
“I was originally going to study for a business degree at university after leaving school but it didn’t feel right at the time. I took a gap year and did a lot of voluntary work before deciding to enrol at college. “I love music and I love to sing, so when I read about the level 3 Diploma in Music course I knew it would be great for me, and

it’s really helped me get to where I am today.”
Despite his newfound fame, Joseph has made a point of giving back to the people he credits with improving his all-round performance skills.
Whether it’s returning to sing at special events or persuading the producers of The Voice to carry out filming at the Medway Campus where he studied, MidKent College is never far from his mind.
“I loved the whole experience of being at the college,” said Joseph. “I’m quite a shy person but the lecturers there really brought out the confidence in me and helped
improve my overall performance. “Everyone at MidKent was so supportive of me when I was on The Voice too, so I like to do what I can to say thank-you and to give something back to them.
“Switching from school to college is a big decision for a lot of people but it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done and I can’t recommend it enough.”
