From Dr. Elizabeth Paul, Alumni President
This year has been a productive one thus far for the North American Alumni. We had set some immedi- ate goals and priorities for the term of the current executive commit- tee. The first being to update our North American alumni database to
improve contact and communication, and the second to promote the mission of “giving back to the Alma Mater.”
Thanks to the hard work of Reverend Max Marble and Dr. Sewa Singh, we have successfully compiled a more complete and accurate alumni database, although it con- tinues to be a work in progress. With respect to the sec- ond goal, the Alumni and the CMC board have raised $55,000 to establish a laparoscopic surgical unit for the OB & GYN department in memory and honor of Dr. Beryl Howie, one of our beloved mentors and teachers, who herself established the department as it is today. I ap- plaud and thank each of the donors for their generosity and philanthropic spirit.
The Annual meeting of CMCNAA is going to be from Oc- tober 6th to the 14th, 2013 in India. The meeting details are available on the web at
http://www.CMCNAA.org
Based on information collected through the updated alumni database, we now know that we have more than 400 alumni here in North America. We have the poten- tial for being a very strong organization, but it is some- what disheartening that so few alumni are actively in- volved in or even members of the CMCNAA. My request to all the alumni is to take a moment and reminisce on the time we spent in CMC. It is this institution that shaped us to be who and what we are today. Please make an effort to "belong" to that old CMC family and together we can do a lot of good for ourselves and our institution.
Sincerely, Elizabeth Paul M.D, Alumni Association President
$55,000 Raised for Laparoscopic Set
The North American Alumni Association and the Ludhia- na Board USA has raised $55,000 in memory of Dr. Ber- yl Howie for a laparoscopic set for the OB & Gyne De- partment at the Ludhiana Christian Medical College, which Dr. Howie started. The next edition of the review will
feature a full article about this generous gift to the Medical College by supporters in the United States.
Congregations and individuals in Missouri have provided scholarships for 11 nursing students for the past three years running. Two of the 11 students are pictured above. The generous $5,000 offering for next year’s 11 nursing students received at the United Methodist Mis- souri Annual Conference fell short of the $11,000 need- ed. Hearing about the shortfall one of the retired Mis- souri Conference pastors wrote out a personal check for the remaining $6,000, guaranteeing a year of study for 11 students. PRAISE GOD! Missouri supporters provide the funds and the Nursing College selects the students who will receive the scholarships.
Visiting Professor from
Ludhiana CMC Dr. Vijay Obed, Professor and Head of the Department of Plas- tic, Cosmetic, Hand and Micro- surgery and Burns, was invited by the American Burn Associa- tion to speak at their annual meeting in Palm Springs, Califor- nia. While in the US he also was invited to be a Visiting Professor to burn centers in Salt Lake City, Washington, DC, and Boston.
Ludhiana Christian Medical Col- lege faculty are routinely invited
to speak and serve as visiting professors in the United States, which speaks well of our institution.
