The 1994 Group believes that studying at a research-intensive university makes for an excellent academic experience. Research is at the heart of what it is to be a university and our members are world


environment that new knowledge is being created and groundbreaking discoveries are being made. It means studying curricula informed by these discoveries under the researchers that make them. And it means that undergraduates have the opportunity and support to undertake their own research projects.


The 1994 Group is comprised of smaller, intensely academic, universities which offer students and staff an excellent university experience. As 1994 Group universities tend to have smaller student populations, close-knit academic communities emerge naturally on campus they offer highly personalized learning with few barriers between students, teachers and researchers. This is one reason these universities have far outperformed the sector in all National Student Surveys since its establishment in 2005.


The 1994 Group believes there is real strength in a diverse higher education sector. Diversity offers both academic staff and prospective students choice. Members of the 1994 Group offer distinctive and individual academic experiences, all of which emerge organically from their diverse histories and traditions.
