DownsMail Advertisement feature Vintage tea makes a comeback

CREAM tea connoisseurs have given a finger-licking thumbs up to Maidstone’s newest vintage venture. Vintage Cream Teas at the Lilypie Café in Chart Sutton have proved so popular that early booking is now recommended for the monthly chance to step back in time and enjoy an hour or two of relaxation and ‘retro.’

Once a month – on the last Sunday - the café and craft emporium, which embraces a vintage clothing and jewellery

concession, as well as fine and antique French furniture, gifts, crafts and collectibles, hosts the Vintage Afternoons. With two separate pre-

bookable sittings at 12 noon and 2.30pm, staff don their best period costumes to serve a mouthwatering treat of teas and herbal infusions, tasty finger sandwiches and delicious home-made cakes and scones - all served using delightful vintage china cups, saucers and plates.

And, if you want to make the day go with an extra bit of sparkle and pizzazz, for a nominal corkage charge, you are welcome to take along your own bottle of ‘fizz.’ “It’s a chance to put on your posh summer frocks and take a trip back in time to the days of elegance,” says chef Tracy.

The mood of the moment is enhanced with bistro-style music from highly-acclaimed accordionist Peter Selby and songbird Emma Anderson.

Lilypie Café and craft emporium is a unique boutique shopping experience in the heart of Kent.

Now in its second successful year of trading, it encompasses a range of concessions – from hand-painted furniture and personalised pieces to beautiful button creations and a selection of oil and watercolour paintings. It offers an inspiring and eclectic mix of furniture, paints, accessories and gifts hand-made and unique to suit every taste and budget and the stock is constantly being refreshed,

If you don’t have time to sit and chat with friends while working your way through the extensive list of speciality teas and tempting cakes and cookies, you can purchase a selection of home-made muffins, cup cakes or cookies – and take them home!

The shop, café, hair & beauty salon and workshops are in

Warmlake Road, Chart Sutton, ME17 3RP, in the centre of the

village and just 10 minutes from Maidstone town centre. It's the perfect place to meet, eat, shop and get creative! Opening hours are 10am–4pm – Monday to Saturday.
