certain procedures and verify their use of a safe surgery checklist during 2012. ASCs that fail to report this information will face payment reductions from Medicare in 2015. ASCs must report this information via Medicare’s QualityNet web site (
www.qualitynet.org).
This article
provides what you need to know to meet these new Medicare reporting requirements.

Getting Started Before your ASC can use Medi- care’s QualityNet web site to file the reports required between July 1 and August 15, you must register a QualityNet security administrator for your ASC by submitting paperwork to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The registration process might take several weeks to complete, so if your ASC has not already registered a security admin- istrator, this step should be taken immediately. For more informa- tion, go to
www.ascassociation.org/ QualityNetInstructions. To ask ques- tions about the process, contact the QualityNet Help Desk, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Central Time, Mon- day–Friday, at 866.288.8912, or by email at
qnetsupport@sdps.org. Once CMS processes your applica- tion for a security administrator,
it
will send your ASC login informa- tion that your security administra- tor will use to sign into the web site and report the safe surgery checklist use and surgical volume data that is required.
