Salmon Select Horse Sale
The 41st Annual Salmon Select Horse Sale was held on April 13, 2013. Although the weather was cold and windy, the crowd was standing-room only. The weekend included Ranch Horse and Trail Horse competitions before the sale, plus traditions unique to the Salmon Sale such as the Wolf Howling Contest and the Jeff Allen Mule Race of
Legends Blue Dancer, a 2004 AQHA gray gelding, sired by No Id Blue Legend, a Western Otoe grandson, and out of a Chicaro Hank granddaughter. The well- broke ranch horse was consigned by Dan and Becky Miller of Rexburg, ID. He sold to M.M. Anderson of Pocatello, ID, for $7,900.
The Millers received the $1,000 Super Sale Bonus and the Salmon Select Sale trophy belt buckle. The buyer received a high-
dollar trophy silver bit and a belt buckle. The second high-selling horse was
also a Dan and Becky Miller consignment, FQHR Bluestar Runner. The 2005 AQHA blue roan gelding had been used in the feedlot, at the sale yard, and on the ranch. Sired by Blue Star McKeag, a Joe Quincy grandson, and out of a Mr. Blackburn 90 granddaughter, he sold to Devan Jackson of Jerome, ID, for $7,300. The third high-selling horse was BR
Irish Red, an 2000 APHA chestnut gelding consigned by Flint Creek Quarter Horses of Drummond, MT. Not only used for “everything” on the ranch, he was a finished breakaway and heel horse. He sold for $6,900. The high-selling grade horse, also a Flint Creek Quarter Horses consignment, was a 2002 black Friesian–Quarter Horse cross gelding named Rolex. Standing more than 16 hands high, and weighing 1,500 lbs., he sold to Wendy Hanson of Valleyford, WA, for $6,250. The top volume buyer by number of
horses was J. Brent Kelly of Midway, UT, who purchase four head. The high- volume buyer by money spent was Quint Whitman of Meridian, ID, whose purchases totalled $12,000. The overall gross on 136 head was
