one small area Catholic school is bucking the trend. Our Mother of Sorrows / Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School offers not only art, music, gym, and nutrition education, but also ballroom dancing! This is the fifth year our students have participated in the Dancing Class- rooms Philly Program. Students learn to fox trot, tango, waltz, and swing, but more importantly they learn to appreciate new forms of art, to express themselves, and to respectfully interact with their classmates. Students at OMS/SI took 10 weeks of ballroom danc- ing lessons with their instructor, Ms. Fania Maria Tsaka- lakos. Ms. Fania greeted dozens of parents who came to see their children “shake what your mama gave you” during the children’s culminating event at the Our Moth- er of Sorrows Campus on Thursday, May 9th. Six pairs of students were chosen at the event to compete for in the semi-finals with 5th grade dancing teams from other schools.
