JCB HONOUR THATCHER


JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of Baroness Thatcher’s death. Margaret Thatcher will be remembered for many things, but above all else, she had the courage of her convictions, she led from the front and ensured Britain enjoyed the respect it deserves overseas.” As a mark of respect, flags at JCB's factories were lowered to half mast and also flew at half mast on the day of Baroness Thatcher's funeral.


BPF WELCOMES £700M BOOST


The British Property Federation has welcomed the detail of a £700m government pledge to build up to 10,000 new build-to-let homes. In a written ministerial statement Housing Minister, Mark Prisk, announced the first tranche of winning bidders of the Build to Rent Fund, which was increased from £200m to £1bn in last month’s Budget.


PETERBOROUGH BRICK COMPANY FACED STRIKE


A brick company, near Peterborough, faced massive disruption due to a continuous strike by 13 burners from Monday 8 April in a dispute over holidays. Hanson Building Products employs about 200 workers at its site at Whittlesey in


Cambridgeshire and the dispute centred on a move by the management to unilaterally reduce the number of holidays for the burners from 25 to 21- days-a-year.


A change of tact Deepening South Cyprus financial crisis diverts British overseas property investors


Despite bank shut downs, empty ATMs and crashing property values, not all the ex-pats in Cyprus were losing sleep over the financial crisis. In fact, the 10,000 British property owners and residents in the Turkish-controlled Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) – as well as British staff in the local banks and property development companies – were cautiously celebrating a “swing to the North” as the


first evidence began to emerge of a new confidence and investment in the north of the island in contrast to the stricken Republic.


TRNC now boasts rising property values in key investment areas – as well as new tax free zones and high bank interest rates of up to 9.5% for investors. In addition, brand new roads, marinas,
