Community activist honored with leadership award

Foundation honored former PEF Region 12 Coordinator Mary Reid with a Community Leadership Award April 5 at its annual “Salute to Excellence” gala in Huntington. The gala supports the SCC’s mission by


providing funds for student scholarships, emergency student loans and academic enrichment programs. “I was very humbled to be part of this


event, and give credit to the college for its mission to higher education and the value it brings to the Long Island region,” Reid said. Assembly Member Earlene Hooper


presented Reid with a plaque and flowers. Reid is currently the president of the


Long Island Chapter of PEF Retirees and is an active PEF political action liaison. She is also a steering committee member of the Long Island Association of Retired Americans, a grants committee member of the Long Island Fund for Women and Girls, is active in the Long Island Housing Partnerships for Nassau and Suffolk counties and is a member of the Town of
