Abstinence plaques


The characters zhai jie, written in Chinese and bolgomi karga in Manchu, literally mean ‘to fast’. This ceremonial requirement would usually last for three days and take place before the worshipping of deities, one’s ancestors or the Heavens. During this time of abstinence, one would refrain from eating meat and fragrant herbs, consuming alcohol and engaging in intimate acts. One particularly rare kesi example in this collection (lot 34), is decorated with the Qing Wu Du (the five poisonous creatures), which indicates that it was made specifically for the dragon boat festival.


齋戒牌


在中國傳統中祭祀為古代國家大事之一，祭祀通常需要沐浴並齋戒數日以示虔敬。齋 戒，與祭祀盛典有關，《明史禮制》中收錄：“戒者，禁止其外；齋者，整齊期內。”齋戒 牌為清代皇帝及其下所有文武官員后宮嬪妃祭祀時掛於胸前的配飾，佩戴期間不做樂、不飲 酒、不食辛辣、不入内寢。清代皇帝沿襲明朝齋戒制度並嚴肅對待齋戒條例。雍正時期開始 要求祭祀人員必須佩戴齋戒牌，並保持公肅之心。齋戒牌兩面分辨裝飾漢文及滿文齋戒二 字，形式多種多樣，有長方形、橢圓形、香袋形、如意鎖形、透雕、葫蘆式等。此次法納得 專場中收集了各種不同材料製成的齋戒牌，其中包括一件極其罕見的端午節齋戒時使用的緙 絲如意五毒鎖形齋戒牌（編號34），其淡雅的草藥香味彌留至今。
