ith over 6,000 employees, a medi- cal staff of nearly 500, and 140 em- ployed physicians providing care in
38 locations, Centra provides a comprehen- sive range of medical services, including three hospitals, a cancer center and physician prac- tices serving people from Farmville to Bed- ford and from Nelson County to Danville. Centra’s services to the community con- tinue to expand through physician practices, screenings and tests, media and publications, and community programs in an effort to pro- mote wellness and prevent medical problems. Centra Lynchburg General Hospital of-
fers cardiac care with more than 5,000 ma- jor cardiac procedures annually, emergency department services with more than 92,000 patient visits annually, critical care services, orthopaedic services, neurology and neuro- surgery, diabetes/renal services, pulmonary care and an outpatient surgery center. Nearby, the Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center offers comprehensive cancer care ser- vices in one convenient location. Centra Vir- ginia Baptist Hospital is home to the region’s womens and children’s services, skilled care and rehabilitation, mental health services, ambulatory surgery and a number of specialty services. In 2006, Centra Southside Com- munity Hospital joined Centra as an affiliate. This hospital serves patients in Farmville and eight surrounding counties. The hospital has a broad range of services with approximately
4,000 admissions and sees more than 20,000 patients in its emergency department.
Awards, Accreditations and Certifications Centra continues to be recognized as a na- tional healthcare leader. Among Centra’s re- cent national awards and accolades: • The American Nurses Credentialing Center re-designated Centra Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist hospitals in 2010 as Magnet facilities which recognize excellence in nursing. Centra was the first healthcare system in central Virginia to achieve Magnet status in 2005.
• Centra Cancer Care Services has twice earned Full Accreditation with Commen- dation as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program from the American Col- lege of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
• Centra Breast Cancer Services has twice earned national accreditation from The National Ac- creditation Program for Breast Centers.
• Centra Lynchburg General, Southside Community and Virginia Baptist hospitals are three of the Top 100 Most Wired hos- pitals in the country according to Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
