Gascoigne, David Ginola, Teddy Sheringham, Jurgen Klinsmann and Gary Lineker. The player-turned-manager spoke

of the thrill of taking Newport County, for the first time in its 100 year history, to Wembley for the FA Trophy Final last year and seeing 15,000 Amber Army supporters in the ground. Of sealing the lease at Rodney

Parade for County, he said: “The 10 year lease deal at Rodney Parade is the biggest signing the club has made in the last 25 years. Just look at what Swansea has achieved over the past 10 years –that could be Newport over the next decade.” Justin warned: “I fully understand

Good news, in the form of improved retail performance will filter through to the market. February showed retail sales improvement of 3.9 per cent over the same month last year. This in turn will improve sentiment in the commercial property sector, not immediately, but the sentiment is improving. The construction industry is also

showing clear signs of an upturn. Taylor Wimpey, which has several

sites in Newport, is the latest to come up with better results. Its shares have been very strong over the last 12 months. Along with other house- builders, it was able to buy land at depressed prices during the downturn and is now reaping the reward, in the form of improved profits. The government initiatives are,

ever so slowly, beginning to have an effect. In the mortgage market, 95 per

cent loans are re-appearing and the occasional 100 per cent. This is not to say that boom times

are here again but the housing market does have such an important knock- on effect on other businesses, this does mark astep forward. Furniture, carpets, DIY businesses will all start to benefit. Overall, the loss of AAA status for

the UK (from Moody’s rating agency) appears to have had little effect on investor sentiment. More attention is being paid to the

new Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, and what he may or may not do about interest rates, quantitative easing and the like. Meanwhile, shares are still cheap

on ahistoric basis. Many people are buying for income, as dividends are good in many well fancied companies. One thing is certainly true, after

four years of pathetic deposit rates, savers are not being rewarded by banks or building societies.

the fans’ frustrations but Newport does not have adevine right to the in the football league; it has to be earned through sheer hard work and determination.” Justin said: “The club is ahead of

scheduled development in terms of what we have achieved in recent months. We’re pressing for league football status. If we don’t win the league this year then we will go up via the play offs.” City of Newport Business Club
