CREATIVE EXPRESSION This Month’s Cover Poetry Corner Running In Water


I was swept under the mat With the dust of dawn


That crawled through the torn curtain Trying to hide the cardboard Taped in the panes Where glass once was


The dust felt like a cleansing Over the dirt I had piled From my soles To my soul


I felt like a crossword puzzle


Where the across clues had vanished And all that was left...


Was down I descended into the day


And poured myself a glass Of forgiveness


Sucked on an old cigarette And blew out the smoke In the direction


I had last seen God Then I walked the other way


Knowing a full circle eventually Was a better chance for me Than a straight line


The gutters growled as I left


Spitting up love I had pissed away Chasing my heels in rivulets Of forgotten reason


I thought about running... Then decided against it


Anything that could catch me Was surely mine to begin with


Tired of running...


I’m gonna learn to swim By drowning...
