THE ADVISORY COUNCIL: REPORT

Board of Directors and council members on how they envisage best integrating the forum into the existing AGR governance model and what our goals and ROI measures should be, to ensure success. We were able to debate a number of hot topics such as the future of the HEAR, and ask the Board of Directors questions and provide feedback on existing AGR governance processes and procedures. As representative of the Finance Constituency, I am excited about what lies ahead – both from a council’s point of view, but also for the wider membership. 2013 is going to be a year of evolution! The council consists of passionate, visionary thought- leaders, all of whom are prepared to challenge the status quo and bring new ideas to the table to help the AGR and its members grow, evolve and collectively promote best practice across the industry.” Steph Ahrens, Morgan Stanley, Finance Sector

On Wednesday 5th December, AGR history was made at the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Advisory Council.

reated to form a bridge between the AGR board and our ever-growing membership, the council was voted in by you, to represent your views. With 40 people in attendance, representing over 12 AGR sectors and groups, the event proved to be a great meeting of minds, and an important step in securing the future of the Association. The packed agenda focussed not only on ironing out the creases of the council to guarantee success, but more importantly, attendees determined a plan of action for the coming months and future meetings. With a view to improving the AGR for all members, this first meeting represents an exciting new chapter for everyone involved in the graduate recruitment industry in 2013.

AGR Chairman, Terence Perrin said…. “This meeting is a landmark in AGR’s history and personally a very proud moment. One of my objectives as AGR Chairman is to ensure that the communication channels between all the stakeholder groups in the Association are transparent, accountable and effective. The Advisory Council will play a pivotal role in delivering these aspirations and is tangible evidence of our commitment to these needs.”

Meanwhile, other attendees at the meeting also reflected on the day’s proceedings…

“The first Advisory Council meeting was extremely informative and useful. It was an excellent opportunity to hear from both the

“The first advisory council meeting was really exciting. Exciting because we, the elected members, were already making an impact by deciding on how best to move forward as a council. Exciting because we can already see that our voice will connect the wider membership’s voice with the AGR Board. And exciting because I left the meeting feeling like the long-term future of the association is at the heart and soul of the advisory council members. Onwards!” Charlie Reeve, Arriva, ‘Other’ Sector

“Being on an ‘advisory council’ does not sound like much, after all what does an ‘advisory council’ do? I admit I wasn’t 100% sure if it would be any more than a twice a year networking opportunity. My impression after the first meeting is this ‘council’ could be different. What it seems to have is a mandate to get involved and make a difference.

As a supplier you always feel a little on the outside as you can’t be a full member of the AGR or be on the board. What the board will do is help suppliers integrate more completely with recruiters, in terms of actions, and if me and the other representatives are truly representative I think it will be a very good thing.” Graeme Wright, Penna, Supplier Sector
