Monchelsea Council Crime report

PCSO Neil Denney was unable to attend the meeting but had provided crime figures. There had been six crimes overall, in- cluding three burglaries, two in- cidents of criminal damage and one theft. KCC warden Liz Lovatt said heating oil had been stolen from a tank at a home in Heath Road, scrap metal had been stolen in Hermitage Lane, and two hedge cutters, four chain- saws and a leaf blower had been stolen from a property in Amber Lane. A resident had concerns

about concealed driveways on Heath Road, close to the junc- tion with Brishing Lane. Liz said she had contacted Kent Highways to ask if a warning sign could be erected. There had been flytipping in Brishing Lane, Loddington Lane, Church Hill and Cliff Hill Road. Cllr Munford asked whether there had been an in- crease in fly-tipping due to changes in arrangements at Maidstone Council tips. Liz said there had been no notice- able increase. Maidstone Council had held a

“bag and flag” day in the village and leaflets had been distrib- uted detailing the issues of dog fouling. A company had been contact-

ing residents with the offer of free burglar alarms.Itwas noted that some companies had high monitoring costs and they should not be promising to offer a faster response from the po- lice or fire service. In association with Neigh- bourhood Watch, Liz said she had applied for funding to pro- duce and distribute an electri- cal safety booklet to all homes in Maidstone borough. Chairman of the Scouts fundraising group, Robin Fuller, said the Scouts had produced a leaflet with details of walks in the parish. The leaflets were £2 each to raise funds for the Scouts. An application had been made to County Cllr Eric Hotson for a £300 grant towards printing costs, but as the leaflets had already been printed, it was unlikely this would be granted. It was agreed that in that case, the parish council would con- tribute £300. Cllr Jonathan Ger- son asked if, once all the leaflets had been sold, the council could put it on their website, and this was agreed. Mr Fuller said the Scouts would like to improve the foot- paths in the village for wheel- chairs and pushchairs. Drainage wouldalsobeneededatlow points and on steep gradients. He said this would be an ambi- tious project for the Scouts and

major fund-raisingwould be re- quired, and asked if the council would support the scheme. Members agreed to this in prin- ciple, and CllrMunford said the Army might consider assisting. Cllr Ian Ellis expressed con-

cern over the storage of cars on land next to Boughton Service Station. The clerk was to query this with Maidstone Council. Cllrs Munford and Mike Bray

were to pursue the purchase and erection of new finger posts at the junction of Green Lane and Gandy’s Lane. Cllr Munford said he would provide an update on the num- ber and occupancy of gypsy sites in the parish and in neigh- bouring parishes in due course. Cllr Munford said the pipe

lining at Parkwood Farm reser- voir was still leaking, but the contractor was carrying out fur- ther investigations. He asked for volunteers to operate the sluice if and when required, until Jan- uary. Cllrs Bray, Ellis and Smith volunteered. Cllr Jan Thompson said the website operating system was approaching renewal and she and Cllr Gershon had discussed this with Esferico, which had offered to provide free website training for councillors and the clerk. Cllr Leon Date was not at the meeting but had provided a re- port on Speedwatch. Posters had been produced for the no- ticeboards and website asking for more volunteers. The com- munity Speedwatch team was to carry out training. A site sur- vey was to be carried out at Marlpit with a view to estab- lishing a new Speedwatch site, and a request had been received from Chart Sutton council to borrow the equipment. A quote was awaited for re-

pairs to the Church Street play equipment. A stage payment had been

made to the contractor for the flat roofing at the village hall. A complaint had been re- ceived from a resident, saying path KM108 between Heath Road and Haste Hill Road was very overgrown. KCC had ad- vised that it would be cut within the next four weeks. Mrs Whybrow’s application

to be co-opted on to the council was discussed at length. It was agreed she would be an asset to the council and her co-option was agreed unanimously. An email had been received

from a parishioner suggesting that the council might consider cutting the whole of Walk Meadow, rather than just path- ways through it. Members agreed that the meadow was primarily a nature reserve, but the suggestion would be con- sidered again when Boughton Monchelsea Amenity TrustP34
