Editor’s letter Happy New Year and welcome to the first issue of Spa Professional Mexico for 2013. This issue presents international spa news including a roundup of the International Spa Association’s 2012 Conference & Expo held in Orlando last October in addition to the recently released 2013 SpaFinder Wellness trends report.
This year’s eagerly awaited trends report reveals 10 of the top forecasted trends that will shape the industry in the year to come. We will expect to see more healthy hotels, catering to sleep and relaxation, fitness and healthy eating. The mindfulness massage helps to focus and guide guests throughout the spa experience to achieve higher levels of relaxation. Earthing, perhaps the trend most relevant and easily incorporated into Mexico’s resort spa industry, illustrates how people can improve health by connecting directly with the ground to balance natural electrical rhythms and decrease inflammation. Conceivably, the most exciting trend for our industry as a whole is that of Spa Genomics and specifically Telomeres – the protective end to each strand of DNA, the only malleable part which is directly affected by lifestyle, stress, diet and sleep etc. All those things we recommend to our spa guests!
