INDIANAPOLIS – Lena Eaton
of Indianapolis is one seriously lucky lady. After years of playing the Lottery regularly, the 91- year-old’s ship finally came in – twice! Eaton won two major Hoosier Lottery prizes in less than three months! In August the great-grandmother won $300,000 in the Hoosier Lottery Quick Draw game. Yesterday, Eaton walked into Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis and presented Lottery officials with a $99,999 winning Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off.
Eaton purchased both her winning
tickets at Indianapolis Hoosier Lottery retailers. She purchased her latest winning ticket, a $5 Scorchin’ Hot 9s Scratch-off, at Safeway Foods at 3008 Kessler Blvd. North in Indianapolis. Her $300,000 win in August came courtesy of a Quick Draw ticket she purchased at Discount Check Cashing at 2802 Lafayette Road in Indianapolis.
Eaton defied odds of 1 in more
than 8.9 million (1:8,911,711) to match 10 of the 20 winning numbers drawn in the Aug. 8 Quick Draw drawing. Less than three months later, she beat odds of 1 in more than 646,000 (1:646,033) to win a $99,999 top prize on the Scorchin’ Hot 9s Scratch-off.
Eaton celebrated her 91st birthday
last week. She said since her August win, she’s been able to start some home improvements such as new windows and a new bathroom. With her most recent windfall she plans to indulge and do a little travelling.
“I’ve never been anywhere,” said
Eaton. “I’ve always enjoyed being close to my family.”
Eaton has six surviving children,
16 grandchildren and more than 20 great-grandchildren. She said the highlight of winning is being able to help her family.
She said she enjoys the peace of
mind that comes from knowing that she’s got savings available to help her family if they need it.
“It’s a pleasure being able to help
them,” said Eaton. “I’ve got good kids.”
The mission of the Hoosier Lottery
is to maximize net income for the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2012, the Hoosier Lottery generated $211 million in surplus revenue which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $533 million and $60 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.
Since its inception in 1989, the
Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4 billion for the citizens of Indiana, $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.8 billion in player prizes.
The Hoosier Lottery reminds all players to play responsibly.
