Greg White & Ben Coulibaly Battle through the Storm of football playoffs H
By Napoleon F. Kingcade Sports Reporter
urricanes and horror movies can put the fear in an average kid. During last week’s hurricane disaster that flooded thou- sands of homes and caused the power outage to over one million households in the state of Pennsylvania, West Catholic High running back Greg White and Boys Latin rusher Ben Coulibaly, both running backs from our area, were busy dealing with the country’s biggest hurricane with the greatest of ease. While the City of Philadel- phia decided to close down most of its city’s operations due to Hurricane Sandy’s wallop through the city re- gions, our two high school running backs were too busy watching horror movies and enjoying other recreational activities during their two days off from school. While government ser- vices, trash collection, gov- ernment offices, schools, all S.E.P.T.A services, most sporting events and even our newspapers, the University

His injury forced him to be on the sideline watching his team play. However, against Bok Tech, in last Saturday’s game on November 3rd

City Review and Weekly Press, were all shut down due to this bad and nasty hurricane, this reporter had some time on his hands to give a phone call to both players and find out how they were dealing with the area’s biggest storm while they spent two extra days with their families and friends while Hurricane San- dy roared her way through our local area.
“I spent my two days watching horror movies with my 6-year-old brother during the storm,” said Ben Coulibaly who is the third
best running back in the Public League for the Boys Latin Warriors. “He and I enjoyed watching Friday The 13th
and Jason. We re-
ally enjoyed watching the Michael Myers’ series of Friday The 13th
. We watched
two episodes of Friday The 13th each day which totals just over four hours of hor- ror movies each day.” Coulibaly said he and his

house.
“Boy! She hates that, she doesn’t like that at all,” said Ben Coulibaly about their mother. “She gets mad every time when we start throw- ing the football around in the house. She tells us all the time to stop, but we start throw- ing it around again after she leaves the room. I really enjoy hanging out with my little brother on my days off from school. He’s a lot of fun to play with.”

did return to his team’s start- ing lineup. The Boys Latin Warriors lost Saturday’s Pub- lic League AAA semi-finals game to Bok Tech by the score of 12-6. In last Saturday’s football game, Coulibaly was nowhere being at 100 percent. His recent injury was still bothering him, but he man- aged to play against Bok Tech anyway. Big Ben rushed 8 times for 15 yards against the Wildcats. Coulibaly was no- where being his normal self. Instead of gaining monster yards on the ground like he usually does, he was forced to help his team make crucial blocks in the backfield. He wanted to do more on the football field, but his services were limited. However, his two days off from school re- ally helped him to play in last

Saturday’s playoff game. “I was happy that we didn’t have school for two days because it helped me with my ankle injury,” said Coulibaly. “I was able to put a lot of ice on my ankle and let it heal some more.” Today in the 2012 Public League football season, Cou- libaly has 718 total rushing yards on115 carries. He also has 7 touchdowns for the season to lead his team. Ben’s football team finished the Public League regular season with a 7-2 record and tomor- row Boys Latin will play Northeast High at West Phila- delphia High Field. Tomor- row’s game is scheduled for a 2:30 PM start. Ben Coulibaly should be more than ready to play in tomorrow’s game against a Northeast Vikings team that got eliminated from the Public League playoffs after losing to Frankford by a score of 35-15. As last Saturday’s game (on November 3) wrapped up against Archbishop Carroll, West Catholic running back Greg White had just finished playing another monster foot- ball game. White led his team to victory with three touch- downs while he rumbled for 183 yards on the ground. The West Catholic Burrs (4-0 in the division and 5-3 overall for the season) won its seventh straight Philadelphia Catholic League AA Division Title by shutting down Archbishop Carroll by the score of 30-7. White’s three touchdowns were just more fireworks added to his blockbuster sea- son. The West Catholic star running back has rumbled for 23 touchdowns to lead all running backs in this City. Back in September, White, who sprints a 4.5 in the 40 and 11.4 in the 100, scored 5 touchdowns against Monsi- gnor Bonner. The score was already 24-0 in favor of Bon- ner at halftime before White decided to act like the scary Boogey man. White scored all five of his touchdowns in the second half while he rushed for 193 yards. West Catholic ended up beating Bonner on that day by a score of 42-24. When many people thought he couldn’t do it again, Number 31 did do it again. Two weeks later, Greg White smashed through Nuemann Goretti’s defense for five touchdowns as the Burrs won that game by a score of 42-0. As the Number One
ranked running back in the City, White still almost found himself playing in a Nue- mann Goretti uniform after
