Friends of the Children - Boston

Friends of the Children-Boston (Friends-Boston) is honored to be the beneficiary of this year’s Boston International Fine Art Show Gala Preview, and we would like to express our endless appreciation to Fusco & Four and Design New England for their commitment to helping

the children we serve. Friends-Boston creates generational change by engaging children from high-risk communities in 12 years of transformative mentoring relationships. We call the young people we serve Achievers to demonstrate our belief in their potential; our ultimate goal is for Achievers to graduate from high school and succeed in college. We provide Achievers with 12 years of comprehensive mentoring and advocacy services, from 1st grade through high school graduation.

Every element of Friends-Boston’s program is designed to provide Achievers with the skills and support they need to graduate from high school and succeed in college. We work with them in their schools, homes and the community, and connect families to services that enable them to provide a positive living and learning environment for their children. Achievers receive 20 hours of monthly support from their “Friends.”

To be a Friend means to: • Mentor – Provide consistent support, model positive behaviors, teach critical life skills, create trustworthy relationships, and keep promises. • Advocate – A relentless pursuit of resources and opportunities that will enable Achievers to succeed. • Lead – Guide and push Achievers to reach their full potential.

Friends-Boston is unique as the only organization in the state that provides young people from Massachusetts’ highest-risk communities with 12 years of targeted mentoring support. We promise Achievers that we will be by their sides from 1st grade through high school graduation, helping them develop the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to succeed in school and in life.

If you would like to get involved: • Volunteer your professional expertise to serve as a rolemodel to the young people we serve. We are always looking to inspire our Achievers by exposing them to new careers paths. • Support the purchase of holiday food cards for the families we serve. Many of our families struggle with food insecurity year-round, an especially pressing issue at the holidays. • Become a Family Friend and you will be paired with an Achiever and their family for at least two years to provide an additional network of support. • Follow Friends-Boston on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about the work we do.

On behalf of the Achievers and families we serve, thank you from everyone at Friends-Boston.
