Charity work recognised
A MARDEN woman has been shortlisted for a national award for her work with the deaf and blind. Sue Turner (70) was nomi-
nated by the charity Sense as being the driving force behind the Kent branch. Sue, who has mentored 12 families as part of herworkwith the support group, was nomi- nated in the “exceptional con- tribution” category, after helping the families last year. Sue has four sons, two of whom are deafblind adultswith extra needs, but still finds time to devote many hours to the charity. Sue was due to find out if she
had won at a ceremony in Covent Garden, London, as the Downs Mail went to press. Sense is a national charity which works and cam- paigns for the needs of deafblind people and those who have more than one dis- ability. Gypsy families in planning bid A PLANNING application has been submitted to site up to eight caravans for four gypsy families at Orchard Farm Nursery, Chart- way Street, Sutton Valence. Michelle Ackerton’s application says there would be four tour-
ing and four static caravans.Other details include the laying of hard surfacing and erection of two amenity buildings.
