Award-winning chef reopens pub in Sandway
WHILE many pub owners like to talk the talk over their food offering, at Sandway’s White Horse they can walk the walk. Because the pub, which had been closed for 16 months prior to the August Bank Holiday reopening, is now owned by Tony Jansen, whose dining credentials are cemented by the fact he was head chef at The Plough when the Stalisfield Green pub won the Kent Dining Pub of the Year award in 2010. Therefore, pub goers can
expect a culinary delight. “We offer typical English food that is relevant to the season,” said Tony, whose parents owned The Anchor in Faversham while he was growing up. “We have a set evening menu that changes every three to four weeks and specials that change more often so we keep things
fresh and relevant.” Tony’s arrival at the White Horse is symbolic, for it is the same place that his partner's parents met 40 years ago and are still local to the area. Tony and Sarah have wasted no time in giving the White Horse an internal makeover, with the wallpaper stripped back and fireplace opened up to give it a more rustic feel. Outside, they are planning to establish a large garden, play area and, uniquely, a viewing platform for people to gaze at the high-speed trains that go dashing past the rear of the pub to and from Ashford International.
The White Horse is open
Tuesday to Sunday for lunch between 12 and 3 then again for evening service from 5 until 11.
