swinging a club or bat, there are two leisure centres, the Herons and the Edge, a range of sports clubs, which have excellent junior sections, and some fantastic golf courses in the surrounding area. The town also has cultural attractions, including the Haslemere Educational Museum (
www.haslemeremuseum.co.uk). One of the best regional museums in the country, this year it won the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award. Originally
opened in 1888, this paean to natural history features more than 240,000 specimens and over 140,000 artefacts in its three permanent exhibits covering geology, natural history and human history. Haslemere has a variety of excellent
cafes, restaurants and pubs, with the Inn on the Hill (
www.tmsteaks.co.uk) a standout. As well the permanent attractions there are several well-attended events that take place throughout the year.
“Over recent years the town has seen
many individual events created, which include the very popular beer festival, food festival, music festival, monthly farmer’s market and also the Christmas festival,” Hardwick says. “The annual beer festival is a really fun affair with around 50 beers and ciders being offered. The event takes place at the beginning of September and needless to say tickets sell out fast!”
