Stoke Park has long held an excellent reputation which is consistently reinforced by press and public alike. The hotel holds five AA stars for the quality of the accommodation, menus, facilities and services. The spa has been recognised in the Good Spa Guide Awards and all of these recognise the level of excellence on offer at Stoke Park.
The same high standard is on display in Humphry’s fine dining restaurant, which holds two AA Rosettes. This prestigious award is presented to chefs who “demonstrate innovation, technical skill and consistency to a high level“. Chris Wheeler, the restaurant’s head chef, aims to add another rosette and possibly even a Michelin star.
This seems realistic when you read recent reviews. “There are very few places that can create a sense of occasion when having a meal but Humphry’s does it with style. It’s the total package, the grounds, the imposing mansion, the decor, the calm country house atmosphere, the quality of the food, the cooking and the attentive service all made the lunch a unique eating experience,“ wrote one reviewer.
Wheeler’s cuisine is modern British with a twist. This innovative approach to food is offset perfectly by the grandeur of the classically-decorated restaurant, a warm ambience and sweeping views of the surrounding parkland.
The estate is the masterful work of ’Capability’ Brown and each of Wheeler’s dishes is just as well designed. He stresses the importance of fresh, local produce to create meals which leave a lasting impression of flavour and presentation. Wheeler worked alongside Jean-Christophe Novelli as group head chef before joining Stoke Park.
Humphry’s is open for lunch and dinner, featuring dishes including Dorset Crab, King Prawn and Avocado Tian with Cucumber, Soft Boiled Quail’s Egg and Pink Grapefruit segments and the Humphry’s ’Snickers’ (Milk Chocolate and Peanut Mousse, Salted Chocolate Caramel, Caramel Foam and Peanut Tuile). Humphry’s offers TDH lunches for £29 and TDH dinners for £52.50, with a lunch time à la carte option also available.

In addition to Humphry’s, The Orangery serves food all day, providing the perfect place to enjoy a salad or sandwich while luxuriating in comfortable seating in a relaxed setting.
There is also the option to move onto the terrace and enjoy the sun in the heart of the stunning estate while enjoying Grilled Pave of Salmon with warm Niçoise Salad and Spring Onion Dressing. Save space for indulgent afternoon teas, also served in The Orangery.
Lighter meals are available in San Marco, the Italian Brasserie in the Pavilion, which offers classic Italian cuisine. The decking provides al fresco dining, shaded by large parasols. Private dining can also be arranged in one of Stoke Park’s stunning function rooms, which suit groups of varying sizes.
And not forgetting Wheeler’s interactive cookery classes, from how to create the perfect three-course meal, to bread making and chocolate workshops. Available for groups of eight to 20 people, for £55 per person for 1.5 hour sessions.
