A trio of Gurkha soldiers from Maidstone are aiming to tickle the town’s tastebuds with the launch of their new restaurant, serving authentic Nepalese food. Prakash Rana, Semanta Rai and Bhes Thapa are all serving soldiers with the Gurkha regiment at Maidstone barracks. But with the help of chefs
Youbaraj Kharal and Krishna Bhusal, they are bringing the true flavour of their homeland to Kent at the Khukuri Cross. Named after the khukuri knife carried by the Gurkhas, the restaurant, a stone’s throw from Maidstone West station, serves traditional Indian and Nepalese dishes to eat in – or take away. Less spicy and more flavoursome than Indian food, Nepalese cuisine offers a range of tempting-sounding dishes, such
as machha jhol (grilled salmon with medium hot onion sauce, lemon juice and spices). The menu also includes Indian food. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 5.30 – 11pm and on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 5.30 – 10.30pm, the Khukuri Cross promises a warm welcome. Watch out for regular special offers – currently a starter, main course, Gurkha aloo and rice or naan for only £9.95 Tuesday- Thursday or Sundays.(Terms and conditions apply).
