WIND ENERGY NETWORK

WIND INDUSTRY CAREERS WEBSITE

ATTRACTING YOUNG PEOPLE

OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE

TO ATTRACT YOUNG PEOPLE TO THE WIND ENERGY INDUSTRY WE HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND LET THEM KNOW JUST HOW EXCITING A CAREER THEY CAN HAVE.

As featured in our last edition the work of Kent Council and their Wind Challenge Project highlighted the need for young people to discover the industry – once they did find out they wanted to be involved. The vast majority of these young people now want careers in the wing energy industry.

We therefore continue our Skills Gap Initiative in this edition on pages 4 + 5 which describes a schedule of highlighted areas that we will be covering in much more detail in forthcoming editions.

We have heard of excellent initiatives from various organisations, associations and leading companies throughout the UK and we aim to feature many of these initiatives with a view to communicating this across the whole industry – we can then work towards a common goal.

Speaking to some very influential individuals we were informed that there is no one central website for people wishing to join the industry to access, free of charge, to seek advice on a career in the wind energy industry.

In much the same way that we found that the industry was not communicating effectively enough some 3 years ago, when we did our research and subsequently formed Wind Energy Network, we have not been able to find good advice on careers which is feely available to the general public.

We will therefore be launching a dedicated Wind Industry Careers website and containing all the information needed for a career in this exciting industry.

To progress this project we are holding a meeting on Thursday 14th June at 10.30am in Excel, London (during Global Offshore Wind).
