Beatles - Two black and white photographs of the Clock Tower and garden of Friar Park near Henley on Thames, each 224 x 109mm ** Friar Park was purchased by George Harrison in 1970. By repute these photographs date from 1906 when the property was sold. Some of the inscriptions seen in the Clock Tower photograph were used by Harrison in two of his songs, ‘The Flying Hour’ and ‘Ding Dong’. £100-150

Morris (William), Autograph letter signed, 26 Queen Sq[uare, Bloomsbury], January 24, 1878, addressed to Mr Brough, 3pp.,concerning his involvement in the anti-war Campaign and work of the Eastern Question Association, with a printed copy of Morris’s song ‘Wake, London Lads!’, both with corners tipped on to blank sheet.
The printed song is William Morris’s first political poem, expressing his strong anti-war sentiments. It was written to open a large meeting at Exeter HalI in January 1878, where Morris delivered a speech entitled the ‘Opening of the Dardanelles,’ to a largely working class audience. In this letter Morris begs for funds and expresses optimism for the cause. Although public opinion was shortly to swing in the opposite direction, curried by an appeal from the government to the patriotism of the workers.
