Kaleidoscope spins for Mandela doc

duced by grandson Kweku Man- dela and Kemal Akhtar, will tell the story of Nelson Mandela through his family and the people who know him best. It includes him being interviewed by 21 of his grandchildren. Kaleidoscope will show selected
scenes to buyers here in Cannes. Spencer Pollard, CEO of KFD, said: “This film is unique in its craft, outlook and storytelling from both Mr Mandela and his grandchildren and the wealth of archive that the film will include. “I cannot begin to tell you how
honoured we are to be working on such an important film.” London-based KFD’s slate also
includes The Penguin King 3D and Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap.
Futurikon lines up big plans for Minuscule

company will show a first promo for the film, which is set against the backdrop of the insect world. The $19m production has
already pre-sold to Belgium (Cinéart), France (Le Pacte) and Thailand (Workpoint Entertain- ment). The film, directed by Thomas
Szabo and Hélene Giraud, is a fea- ture version of Futurikon’s popu- lar children’s series, which has sold to more than 80 countries including the US (Disney Chan- nel) and Japan (NHK). The company, which is perhaps

Parisian suburb in the 1980s. World premiering in the market, Playground Chronicle will be dis- tributed by Jour2Fete in France and has also been acquired by Orange Cinéma Séries.

Cinemavault is Stranded with Christian Slater Toronto-based international sales outfit Cinemavault comes to market with Roger Christian’s sci-fi thriller Stranded, starring Christian Slater. The film follows a mysterious infection in the near future that contaminates a space station. The $8m-budgeted Minds Eye Entertainment project is produced by Kevin Dewalt and Mark Montague. It will start shooting in July.

Genesis hits town with Glasgow crime story Genesis Film Sales is in Cannes with The Wee Man, a crime thriller that has its market premiere today. The film is based on the true story of notorious Glaswegian criminal Paul Ferris. John Hannah (Four Weddings And A Funeral) and Martin Compston (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed) head the cast, which also includes Rita Tushingham, Stephen McCole, Patrick Bergin, Clare Grogan and Denis Lawson. Ray Burdis (The Krays) directs.
