CityEditorial
As we move into a typical rain-soaked and grey spring, wistful thoughts of the summer begin to occupy our minds. In particular the now imminent start of the London Olympics, which has raised several interesting challenges for City solicitors. Not the least of these is how to get to the office every day in the midst of reduced road access,
higher demands on public
transport and increased congestion all round.
The City of London of course will
be on show to all our international visitors, and in particular that jewel in the crown of tourist attractions, the Tower of London. The Master opens this edition with a fascinating account of the ancient traditions of the Tower, many of which are performed every day right under our noses.
The professional committees of the City Law Society are generally active in the first quarter each year, and we particularly commend the reports that appear in this edition for their volume and thoroughness. A busy year for all of us, especially in the field of regulation.
The report of the Company’s annual banquet at the Mansion House is
lively, and reaffirms the privilege of having one of our own, a Solicitor, holding the office of Lord Mayor this year. Alderman and Past Master David Wootton is, by all accounts, pursuing a punishing schedule representing the interests of the City, but no more so, we think, than his previous life in private practice and public service.
We wish all readers a pleasant spring! EDITORIAL BOARD
