FROM ITS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS WITH 33 FOUNDING MEMBERS 59 YEARS AGO, the Vernon Yacht Club numbers have grown to exceed 335 Members today with both power and sail boaters more or less evenly represented amongst the 285 slips in the moorage. Although the Vernon Yacht


Club is well known to residents of the North Okanagan, most are unaware of the many benefits the Members of the Club provide to their community as a whole. More than just a group of


individuals collectively focused on their common passion for boating, the Vernon Yacht Club actively works to promote the enhancement of safe boating in the North Okanagan as a recreational and pleasurable pastime. Visitors and residents alike


enjoy safe moorage at any one of the 37 mooring buoys, maintained at the cost of the Members of

the Vernon Yacht Club, that are strategically placed throughout the north half of Okanagan Lake. The Vernon Yacht Club also


provides community support by donating valuable moorage space free of charge to the Okanagan Landing Volunteer Fire


Club holds the Okanagan Charity Sailing Regatta where sailors from up and down the Lake come to enjoy the camaraderie and a great weekend of racing, all for the purpose of raising funds for local charities. Over the past 10 years, with the generous support of our sponsors, this event has raised more than $296,000 for local charities in the North Okanagan. The Vernon Canadian Power


Vernon Yacht Club


Department for their fire boat and to the Okanagan Quality of Life Society for their pontoon boat “Heaven Can Wait” that is used to take elderly and disabled persons on free water excursions. Annually, the Vernon Yacht


and Sail Squadron receives use of the Vernon Yacht Club’s Clubhouse free of charge as a meeting place and training centre to conduct their professional safe boating courses. Since 1989 the Vernon Yacht


Club has held its annual Boat and Leisure Show, a free community event, with numerous exhibitors displaying their wares and the Members of the Vernon Yacht Club donating their time and boats to offer free sail boat rides to those
