the donors, sponsors, and participants for the 2010 Arts Ball! We exceeded our fundraising goal due to your generosity and support and raised more than $27,000 to help the Coronado Historical Association’s work to fulfill its mission.

•Coronado History Month for 3rd Grade

Students will begin this month and thanks go to the following organizations and

individuals for underwriting of this program: Leslie and Don Budinger, the Muller Foundation, Optimists, Rotary of Coronado, Phyllis Kraus, Mary Gilliland, and an anonymous donor whose children were once 3rd

graders in Coronado

schools. These funds will be added to the Sybil and James Stockdale Education Fund.

•The theme for May 2010’s National

Preservation Month is Old is the New Green! We know that preservation is good for communities and good for the pocketbook, but in the face of our growing climate crisis, we can also say with confidence that preservation has a

significant role to play in fostering development that is more environmentally and economically sustainable.

•The Museum’s archivist,

Rachel Lieu, was just awarded an Emerging Museum Professional Fellowship which will allow her to attend the annual American Association of Museums conference in Los Angeles. At this conference Rachel will

be able to meet other young museum professionals as well as veterans in the industry while attending seminars and lectures on how to better care for the Museum’s objects.

•Look for Coronado Visitor Center’s new

campaign, Ask Us About Coronado. At the annual Floral Association’s Flower Show April 17-18 volunteers will be wearing Coronado green t-shirts that boldly say, Ask Us About Coronado. At CHA’s booth inside the Flower Show ask for information about shopping, dining, tours and sample itineraries and you will receive a reproduced postcard from the 1936 Flower Show.

Explore La Jolla’s Secret Gardens

Entering through often secluded garden gates to view private gardens each spring has become an annual rite of passage for the La Jolla Historical Society. This year’s Secret Garden Tour of Old La Jolla is no exception and will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 10:00 am to 4 pm.

Six exquisite gardens, announced the day of the Tour, will be featured thanks to homeowners who have agreed to open up their secret sanctuaries for a self-guided tour. The coveted Platinum Tour will feature a brunch at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa with shuttle transportation and a guided tour of each garden, including an additional garden open exclusively to Platinum Tour guests.

The Tour is further enhanced each year by delightful music in the gardens performed by local musicians, displays by local designers and La Jolla artists creating paintings which capture each home and garden’s unique beauty.

All proceeds from the annual Secret Garden Tour provide vital funding for the La Jolla Historical Society to accomplish its goal of discovery, collection and preservation of La Jolla’s heritage.

The La Jolla Secret Garden self-guided tour is $40 for Society members, and $50 for nonmembers. The Platinum Tour is $140 for members, $150 nonmembers. Visit www. lajollahistory.org for online reservations using a credit card or to download a reservation form and mail it in with payment to La Jolla Historical Society, P.O. Box 2085, La Jolla, CA 92038. You may also phone the SGT information line at (858) 459-5335, ext 5 for reservation information.
